Myseftermiddag

My boyfriend is sick and so we decided to watch a jolly movie like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I baked XXL Chocolate Chunk Cookies to go with it which will now be devoured :)

Christmas Spirit in the City

Today my boyfriend and I went to the city center to get christmas presents and have a look at the now opened christmas markets. They virtually cover the whole shopping area. There wasn't that much going on yet, but I guess the missing snow (yeah, I was really disappointed!) and the rain kept people indoors. I really like the big christmas tree at Alsterhaus shopping center. It's a little overloaded, but I love it ;-) I'm all for the American way of christmas, although I do think the traditional things like wooden decorations and so on should definately remain. Christmas shouldn't only be about shopping and presents either... I also saw a program on tv where they complained about sales going down at toyshops. I guess that's because so many kids get electronics like playstations, Ipods etc. That really is a great shame and I do hope a fair amount of "old-fashioned" parents remains out there.

Wintertime!

Good afternoon to all of you!
Back when I was living in the countryside I often dreaded winter. It meant having to stay at home because driving was just to dangerous or even impossible due to the heavy snowfall. When I was a kid, I adored being outside and was really excited about the first snowflakes. There was just so much fun stuff to do! Now that I'm living in a big city I am really looking forward to it getting cold and frosty again. It can't really keep me from doing anything and I can enjoy sitting in a nice café or at home feeling all warm and comfortable. If one can believe the weather forecast, we'll have the first snow this year tomorrow!

Home soon

HejHej!
As much as I love Hamburg, I am really looking forward to going back to Scandinavia for Christmas. It's just so pretty and I get to have my family around me again.
I don't get why people dread the holidays. I love the decorations, the traditional songs, the smell of fresh gingerbread and cinnamon lattes, the snow (if you're lucky) and all the cosyness. No other time of the year manages to make me feel that much like a kid again ;-)

Frukost

I haven't been feeling too good the last few weeks, so my blog got utterly neglected. But I'm back now and looking out at a sunny morning in Hamburg. Over the past few days I was out a lot on long walks and was surprised at how quickly things change in nature. It's like from one days to the next you find yourself in a completely new world.
This week will be about decorating and getting our flat ready for Christmas. Even though I'm not into the really big works, I do enjoy some old-fashioned decorating. I definately will get a nice wreath to put on the couch table. I love candles and this will replace our almost burned down one.
Also, I am starting to buy christmas presents. And while it's really easy to find something nice for some people, for others you just can't think of the right thing. I'm against buying just for the sake of buying, so this will take some time and effort ;-)
What about you? Have you already gotten in the mood for christmas?
