Hamburg's quirky sides

Hej!
It's been a bit dull here the past few days, so there wasn't really that much to report. Yesterday though, we had our first real snow this year and the sun decided to come out again! Today was pretty much the same and so we spent most of our time out and about. In Hamburg you just have to leave the house and all sorts of funny little things are out there right in front of your nose, waiting to be discovered. Above you can see a few things that caught my attention :-)

Memories of London Part I

Good morning!
I woke up this morning desperately missing my favourite city. LONDON! I love being there and I also know I'm always happy to see photos of the city on other blogs. So I decided to post a bunch of pictures from my last trip every monday :) Hope you like it!

Starbucks and a walk

Yay, Advent season has startet!

Today I met up with a friend to go for a walk in the park. We talked about her new job in fashion, relationships and our plans for New Year's Eve. Every year it's the same - we just can't make up our minds as to what we want to do on that special night. I place far more value on christmas in any case. New Year's Eve can be fun, but it just hasn't got the same meaning for me. I just hope it wont rain!
We decided to drop into Starbucks on our way back, although we both don't particularly like the coffee taste there. They do make the best Frappucinos, but their lattes just taste funny... What do you think?

Ein kleiner Bummel

Hej!
I was quite surprised yesterday to see that sale has already begun here. Was it always this early??
Here in the North of Germany a lot of people like sitting in front of cafés even on colder days, but this time everybody seemed to have chosen warmth and huddled up inside. And as much es I love the atmosphere of people sitting outside in the summer, I also think it's wonderful to look into coffee shop windows and see friends sipping their lattes and eating gingerbread muffins together. It's like a safe spot to hide from the cold. We had a lot of sun here and temperatures were just above zero, so it isn't even that bad yet. In other parts of the country there's been a great amount of snowfall and people are having problems coping with it. Somehow it's always the same. You hear "This is the worst winter ever!" all the time and whilst people love moping about it being to rainy, when snow has come they don't like that either.

Myseftermiddag

My boyfriend is sick and so we decided to watch a jolly movie like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I baked XXL Chocolate Chunk Cookies to go with it which will now be devoured :)

Christmas Spirit in the City

Today my boyfriend and I went to the city center to get christmas presents and have a look at the now opened christmas markets. They virtually cover the whole shopping area. There wasn't that much going on yet, but I guess the missing snow (yeah, I was really disappointed!) and the rain kept people indoors. I really like the big christmas tree at Alsterhaus shopping center. It's a little overloaded, but I love it ;-) I'm all for the American way of christmas, although I do think the traditional things like wooden decorations and so on should definately remain. Christmas shouldn't only be about shopping and presents either... I also saw a program on tv where they complained about sales going down at toyshops. I guess that's because so many kids get electronics like playstations, Ipods etc. That really is a great shame and I do hope a fair amount of "old-fashioned" parents remains out there.

Wintertime!

Good afternoon to all of you!
Back when I was living in the countryside I often dreaded winter. It meant having to stay at home because driving was just to dangerous or even impossible due to the heavy snowfall. When I was a kid, I adored being outside and was really excited about the first snowflakes. There was just so much fun stuff to do! Now that I'm living in a big city I am really looking forward to it getting cold and frosty again. It can't really keep me from doing anything and I can enjoy sitting in a nice café or at home feeling all warm and comfortable. If one can believe the weather forecast, we'll have the first snow this year tomorrow!

Home soon

HejHej!
As much as I love Hamburg, I am really looking forward to going back to Scandinavia for Christmas. It's just so pretty and I get to have my family around me again.
I don't get why people dread the holidays. I love the decorations, the traditional songs, the smell of fresh gingerbread and cinnamon lattes, the snow (if you're lucky) and all the cosyness. No other time of the year manages to make me feel that much like a kid again ;-)

Frukost

I haven't been feeling too good the last few weeks, so my blog got utterly neglected. But I'm back now and looking out at a sunny morning in Hamburg. Over the past few days I was out a lot on long walks and was surprised at how quickly things change in nature. It's like from one days to the next you find yourself in a completely new world.
This week will be about decorating and getting our flat ready for Christmas. Even though I'm not into the really big works, I do enjoy some old-fashioned decorating. I definately will get a nice wreath to put on the couch table. I love candles and this will replace our almost burned down one.
Also, I am starting to buy christmas presents. And while it's really easy to find something nice for some people, for others you just can't think of the right thing. I'm against buying just for the sake of buying, so this will take some time and effort ;-)
What about you? Have you already gotten in the mood for christmas?
